Responsible gambling in the UK: signs and support
Gambling is entertainment, not a way to earn money and not a solution to money problems. If you are trying to win back losses, cover bills or borrow so you can keep playing, stop and take practical steps before placing another bet.
Signs that gambling is becoming a problem
Look at what you do, not what you intend to do. Warning signs include:
- spending more than you planned, or repeatedly raising your stakes to chase a loss;
- gambling for longer than you meant to, or finding it hard to stop once you start;
- hiding gambling, losses or bank transactions from people close to you;
- borrowing money, selling belongings or missing bills to fund gambling;
- feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut down;
- thinking about gambling when you need to focus on work, family or ordinary tasks.
One sign is enough to pause and act. You do not need to wait for debts or a crisis.

Use the controls on your account
UK-licensed casinos must provide responsible gambling tools, including self-exclusion. Remote operators must prompt new customers to set a financial limit before their first deposit and make account-level limit controls accessible. Open the safer gambling or account settings in your casino account and set a limit you can afford. If you want to stop gambling there, use the self-exclusion option. Don’t rely on willpower alone.
UK rules also restrict how online slots work: autoplay is banned, each spin must last at least 2.5 seconds, and a game cycle must not allow a total stake above £2 if you are under 25 or £5 if you are 25 or older. Those rules do not make gambling safe or profitable.
Operators must verify your age before allowing you to deposit. Do not gamble if you are under the legal age. UK-licensed casinos cannot accept credit cards for gambling, including through wallets that let credit-card funds be used. A payment restriction is not a substitute for setting limits or stopping.
Where to turn now
Start with the casino account where you are gambling. Use its limit or self-exclusion controls, then contact the operator through the support route shown in your account and say plainly that gambling is causing you harm. Ask how to block further gambling and what support options it can provide. UKGC licensees must offer an internal complaints process and access to an approved Alternative Dispute Resolution service; that route is for complaints, rather than immediate help with gambling harm.
I can’t provide a verified gambling-support organisation, address or phone number here: none has been verified for this page. I won’t guess at a contact. For now, tell someone you trust what is happening, ask them to stay with you while you block access to gambling and deal with urgent bills, and avoid borrowing or depositing more. Keep it direct. No more deposits.
If you have a complaint
Use the operator’s internal complaints process first. If the complaint is not resolved, ask the operator for access to its approved Alternative Dispute Resolution service. Check the operator’s licence details and public register link on its website or app.
Jokabet sets out these points to help you make an informed decision. Gambling can involve losing money, and safeguards cannot remove that risk.
